Each year we get the opportunity to take our teenagers along to take part in the parade at the Lisburn Christmas Lights Switch On. This is through a great relationship we have with Streetwise Community Circus who organise the parade each year.
This year it took place on an absolutely freezing night - Thursday 17th November. With loads of schools taking part the changing room can be a chaotic place with some incredibly bizarre scenes. Stilt walkers and balance acts dander among the many kids getting their make-up and face paint done.
The buzz was amazing as our Granshaw group took their place among the numerous floats of the parade. It's difficult to say exactly what our teenagers were dressed as, but you can make your own mind up from the picture above. Our leaders don't just sit back and relax either. Will, Dan and myself were right in the thick of it, kitted out as we pushed our floats along in the parade.
Apart from Will's float deflating half way round the route, the whole evening was a great success and we all had a lot of fun. For me, the parade has become a starting line for the Christmas period, and all of us could feel the Christmas atmosphere building last night. As always, the night had to end with a McDonald's trip before we headed home to thaw out.
Bring on Christmas!
